Yunnan Baiyao Group Co., Ltd. (YNBY) is one of the most powerful and famous Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) manufacturers as well as the unique legal manufacturer of Yunnan Baiyao in P. R. China. Yunnan Baiyao is known everywhere in China as the most effective traditional medicines for stopping bleeding and healing wounds. In 1902, Mr. Qu Huanzhang, a practitioner of Chinese medicine who came from Yunnan Province and had set out to explore the entire region and tasted its hundreds of herbs, successfully formulated the magical medicine "Qu Huanzhang Panacea," which is now called and known as "Yunnan Baiyao".

Originally, the powder was used topically and orally as a treatment for bleeding wounds to stanch blood flow and speed healing. It soon became known as a multipurpose remedy used more generally to stop bleeding, and also to promote blood circulation, speed the elimination of bruises, and remove pustules. It has been used in Chinese medicine as part of the treatment for pulmonary bleeding associated with tuberculosis, gastric and intestinal bleeding, encephalic bleeding, uterine bleeding, and purpura. As a plaster, it is used mainly for bruises and sprains, but also for backache and arthralgia.

In China, its reputation for treating injuries is dominant. In the massive Taiâ??erzhuang Battle of 1938 (between Chinese Army and Japanese invaders), Mr. Qu Huanzhang donated 30,000 bottles of Yunnan Baiyao to the army, thereby saving the lives of many soldiers. Yunnan Baiyao gained the reputation as a remedy of miracle. After the death of Mr. Qu, his wife, Ms. Miao Lanying, donated the secret formula to the new government in 1955. Large-scale production was implemented at that time and continued through to the present, mainly as a product of Yunnan Baiyao Group Co., Ltd.



In 1996, under guidelines set by Yunnan provincial government, four Yunnan Baiyao manufacturing factories were reformed to integrate the Yunnan Baiyao Group Co., Ltd. Its physical plant, both new and renovated, meets the Chinese GMP standards. In order to ensure the highest quality product and increase production capacity, advanced production facilities and analysis equipments, both domestic and from abroad, had been introduced. In 2000, Yunnan Baiyao Group successfully passed the on site examination of Good Manufacturing Practices and obtained GMP certificate for Human Drugs issued by the State Food & Drug Administration (SFDA).



In 2001, Yunnan Baiyao TCM Co.,Ltd. Was established in Guanliangpo of Wuding County Chuxiong Prefecture Yunnan Province, herbs GAP base was set up. In September 2004, construction project of superior quality seed resource cultivation & research and GAP model base passed the inspection and examination. Baiyao Garden-wild herbâ??s seed warehouses became a epitome of traditional Chinese herbs, nationality herbs, natural drugs resources and introduction of fine variety to domestication and standardized plantation base of Yunnan Province. At the beginning of 2002, the Group started to construct Yunnan Baiyao Group Wenshan Superior quality Notoginseng plantation base, solved the â??bottle neckâ?? problem, became a herb base providing â??safe, effective, stable and controllableâ?? quality herbs. In October 2004, Yunnan Baiyao Notoginseng base passed the National GAP certification with high standard, itâ??s the 9th one passed the national GAP certification among 7000 more pharmaceutical enterprises. The Notoginseng base creatively adopted the operational mode of base plus farm, put the GMP requirement into the use of construction of GAP.



Yunnan Baiyao has been proven to have a great curative effect on internal organs and their malfunctions, such as pulmonary tuberculosis bleeding, gastric hemorrhage, intestinal bleeding, encephalic bleeding, gynecological blood disease and purpura. Botanists have researched the chemical composition of Yunnan Baiyao and discovered that it contains various saponins and alkaloids, and physiologically active compounds such as calcium phosphate. Numerous pharmacodynamic studies indicate that Yunnan Baiyao is effective in platelet cohesion, main arterial contraction, cortex hormonal secretion, release of the inflammation process, capillary meability, leukocyte waver and connective tissue proliferation.
