Super Septic is a proprietary blend
of bacteria selected for their ability to degrade organic waste. The product
contains both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria in equal portions and hence can be
used in many different applications. Super Septic comes in powder form and in
sachets of 100grams each. It has been tested and is widely used in Africa
Development Community region since 2000 and has been found to be user friendly
and harmless to the environment. Super Septic also liquefies the sludge which
would mean that the normal 4 to 5 year cycle for a pit would increase too many
more years as Super Septic will be reducing the levels of the pit all the time

How It works

Super Septic utilizes a biological
process, in which, decomposition of organic matter occurs both with and without
oxygen, thus being called aerobic and anaerobic. Two processes occur during
decomposition. First, facultative acid forming bacteria use organic matter as a
food source and produce volatile organic acids, gases such as carbon dioxide
and hydrogen sulfide, stable solids and more facultative organisms. Second,
anaerobic methane formers use the volatile acids as a food source and produce
methane gas, stable solids and more anaerobic methane formers.

The purpose of the anaerobic process
is to convert sludge to end products of liquid and gases while producing as
little biomass as possible. It is thought that anaerobic digestion is
accomplished in three stages: (1) hydrolysis of insoluble polymers, (2)
fermentation of monomeric breakdown products and (3) generation of methane. The
process is accomplished through the following four steps:

1. Hydrolysis:
   large polymers are broken down by enzymes.
2. Fermentation:
   Acidogenic fermentations are most important, acetate is the main end
   product. Volatile fatty acids are also produced along with carbon dioxide
   and hydrogen.
3. Acetogenesis:
   Breakdown of volatile acids to acetate and hydrogen.
4. Methanogenesis:
   Acetate, formaldehyde, hydrogen and carbon dioxide are .converted to
   methane and water.
