What is a Natural Zeolite?

Natural Zeolite is an inorganic porous mineral having a highly ordered structure. Zeolite means “Boiling stone in Greek. Zeolite has a natural Porosity because it has a crystal structure with Windows, cages and super Cages. Zeolites are Hydrated alumino –silicate of the alkaline and Alkaline earth cations, principally sodium, Potassium, calcium, and magnesium. So far more Than 45 natural Zeolite have been identified. The most common are clinoptilolite analcium , chabazite , erionite, and phillipsite, Commercially, clinoptilolite is the major Zeolite Used for various applications. Its chemical Composition can be given as an oxide formula: M2/n O.AI2O3.YSiO2.ZH2O Or as a structural formula: Mx/n[AIO 2 )×(SiO2)y].ZH2O Where M is a cation with charge of n ; the atoms in The square bracket represents the framework, X+Y Is the sum of the tetrahedral in the unit cell, the Cations ; M: whit the valance ; n , and the water Molecules fill the channels.

Animal Feed Additive
Animal feed additiveClinoptilolite is a natural Zeolite mineral feed additive for all animals. It can be added to animal feed to obtain the maximum efficiency from the feed nutrients. Studies over the last 30 years suggest that Zeolite application on the daily diet of animals: 1. Reduces the digestive illnesses such as diarrhea
2. Helps animals grow faster especially new burns and young animals 
3. May improve egg quality in laying hens 
4. Conditions the rumen in dairy and beef cattle
5. Reduces odor in animal husbandry sheds
6. Acts as Mycotoxin binder 
7. Reduces Acidosis (grain poisoning)
8. Reduces salt level in manure 
*For milk and meat cows and other animals

General rule for all animals such as cattle, goat, poultry, fish and shrimp, sheep, rabbits, horses, alpacas and swine: use 1gr of Clinoptilolite per 1kg live weight of the animal mixed with its daily ration. Clinoptilolite must be properly mixed with the conventional feed without any ingredient extraction.

The high cat ion exchange capacity (CEC) makes Zeolite particularly valuable in holding and slowly releasing nutrients to plants. They can promote better plant growth by improving the fertilizer. As a result, Zeolites have a great part in construction and maintenance of turf projects such as sports fields (golf), parks and greenhouse potting soil. Natural Zeolites make an excellent soil amendment and work year after year since they do not decompose. Natural Zeolites reduce nutrient and fertilizer loss through heavy rains, leaching and irrigation, resulting in less pollution in run –off water. The method of application in golf and bowling greens is to sweep Zeolite into core holes on greens. Fish and shrimp farming In aquaculture three main roles are identified for Zeolite as below: 1. To remove ammonia from hatchery, transport and aquarium waters 2. To generate oxygen for aeration systems in aquarium and transport 3. To supplement fish ration Using Zeolite improves water quality and filtration in fish and shrimp farming by removing ammonia. This is either accomplished by broadcasting powdered Zeolite across water where the fine powder "mops" up free ammonia cat ions and captures them and carries to the bottom of the fish tank or shrimp farm .

Zeolite can be used to help purify municipal water supplies and waste water. In many countries, water companies use Zeolites to filter industrial and drinking water. It also acts as a filter medium to remove dirt from swimming pool water. Therefore it reduces the usage of chlorine. Chlorine is used to neutralize ammonia cal by products of pollution. Since Zeolite (Clinoptilolite) removes ammonia products, some pools have found chlorine being reduced by as much as 50%. Zeolite is becoming an excellent replacement for sand filters because it has a working life longer than traditional sand; also it weighs less e.g. one cubic foot of Zeolite weighs about 50 lbs whereas one cubic foot of sand weighs about 100 lbs. 
The method of application is to replace sand with Zeolite and backwash normally. Depending on ammonia and other captions, we can determine when replacement is needed.
