Nab Cottage

Nab Cottage began as a
family, a language school, and an international community in 1983. At the
school, students and teachers live together and study together, so there is
continuous interaction in English. It is in the centre of the Lake District
National Park, an area of outstanding beauty and tranquillity, which is
currently being considered for World Heritage status. The school overlooks a
small lake and is surrounded by mountains. There are many wonderful walks from
the cottage including waterfalls, caves, valleys, mountains and rivers. The
region is very popular with British tourists so there are many facilities in
the villages, including cinemas, shops, bars, clubs, boating, tennis, fitness
centres and leisure spas -Windermere, the largest lake in England, is just 3km
away.

The four colourful and
comfortable classrooms are all in the beautifully converted barn right next to
Nab Cottage. Facilities include computer, WIFI, listening and reading library.
Students can use the facilities here at any time including evenings and
weekends. The barn was built around 1800 and the thick stone walls and original
features have been kept. Nab Cottage takes a maximum of 20 students in the
school at any time. Classes are very small. Students are all adults and come from
all over the world. Teachers apply a holistic model of learning, encouraging
students to behave, think, dream and relax in English. This creates a strong
foundation, because everybody learns from each other and grows in confidence
and self-esteem. Teachers ask everyone to speak only in English all the time
they are on the course.

Regarding accommodation,
students live at Nab Cottage, sharing the space and the facilities. The
bedrooms are all cosy with beautiful views, and most have their own shower and
toilet. Downstairs there is a sitting room with log fire, a TV room, a piano
room, dining rooms, and a large farmhouse kitchen. The gardens around the
cottage and barn are used for lessons when the weather is fine. There is also a
patio with barbecue where everyone often eats lunch, an orchard, a
vegetable/flower garden and an outdoor sauna. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and
teas/coffees are included in the price. You can buy alcoholic and soft drinks
at cost price.

There are different courses
available at Nab Cottage. The General English For Adults course usually runs
from June to September. People can enrol on any Sunday and stay for between 1
and 13 weeks. Each week is made up of 35 contact hours and includes: Large
Group/Whole Community Sessions to establish confidence, Small Group Classes,
which are organized in groups with 4 to 9 students of the same level and
concentrate most of your work at the school; One To One Sessions (weekly
tutorials with a teacher); Guided Study Sessions and Small Group Activity Sessions.
Other courses offered by Nab Cottage include Closed Group Courses, designed for
groups or companies, English & Yoga, English & Walking, One-to-one
courses (which can be booked apart from the general courses) and Experiential
English for Teachers.
