Introduction of
Farm Service Center Association of Afghanistan:
The Farm Service
Center Association of Afghanistan (FSCAA) is an Agricultural services provider
association which was created in December, 2009 to drive the expansion and enhancement of
Agro Businesses, wholesale/retail FSCs (Farm Service Centers) which are established
across Afghanistan. The Association has elected board of directors (BoDs) and
has five mobilized
task groups focused on marketing and advertising, new business development, output
marketing, access to credit and extension and training. The Association is
advised and assisted by
FSCAA’s Board of Directors and its project team. In addition, the
association is working towards franchise type of operations with collective
inventory purchases to lower the costs of inputs to the farmers, to insure
association approved
standards for inventories, participate in FSC marketing and advertising program
to create brand
recognition and standardized store layouts as well as hunt Local and
International markets for
Afghan agricultural products through output marketing.
FSCAA’s Vision:
FSCAA’s vision
is to increase the income of farmers all over the country through a developed and
self-sustained Agricultural sector in Afghanistan.
FSCAA’s Purpose:
The purpose of
the FSCAA is to promote growth of the Afghan agricultural sector through
supporting a network of privately owned Farm Service Centers (FSCs) that
provide farmers with
high quality inputs, services, technical assistance and training to farmers and agribusinesses
dealers throughout the country. FSCAA considers developed and sustained agricultural
sector as a crucial and indispensable factor for a developed and self-sustained Afghanistan.
FSCAA’s Mission:
FSCAA’s social
mission is to improve the household incomes of farmers and farming communities
throughout the country. FSCAA’s
commercial mission is to support the development of agricultural and livestock input providers
that provide farmers with critical inputs and services, as well as engage in
finding local
and international markets for farmers’ output.
Objectives of
FSCAA:
· To improve the
lives of farmers through increasing their incomes · To improve the
Quality and Quantity of Agricultural outputs · Certifying
Agricultural outputs in line with Global GAP · To contribute in
achieving MAIL’s (Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock) Goals · To hunt local
and international markets for Afghan farmers’ Agricultural outputs · To provide
credit facilities to farmers through Agro dealers so that they may take full benefits from
productivity and quality improvements through the use of new inputs. · Provision of new
technology and related information to farmers and Agro Dealers. · Steps to help
eradicate substandard inputs and outputs · Provision of
Agricultural equipment's’ services on credit · Establishing and
maintaining close ties with NGO’s and other Organizations working for Agricultural
Sector · To ensure the
sustainability of existing FSCs and encourage the development of new FSC’s by
improving commercial input supply and farm service infrastructure in Afghanistan. · Furthering
provincial FSC’s to district level. · Ensure that
farmers have affordable, timely and reliable access to Quality inputs
and services such as seeds, fertilizers, crop protection
products and agricultural extension from well reputed companies around
the world. · To provide
Agricultural related trainings and workshops. · To help and
assist farmers coping with plants and livestock diseases · To establish
Soil and Water testing laboratories across Afghanistan · to
help farmers prepare their lands for growing appropriate products
FSCAA’s Task Groups:
1. Marketing
& Advertising:
FSCAA’s
staff and FSCs owners are responsible to work on marketing and advertising
for the FSCAA, FSCs and Agro dealers. This includes brochures, newsletters, Publishing
success stories, Bill Boards, Radio and TV Campaigns, Flyers and online banners.
2. New business
Development:
FSCAA’s staff in
collaboration with each FSC owners is responsible for finding new business for the FSCs
and Agro Dealers, new opportunities and ways to expand their business coverage area to new
districts and provinces. The Business Information Database is maintained at FSCAA by the
Marketing Specialist to identify each organization, operating area, objectives, agriculture inputs
need, contact information and voucher distribution programs to assist the FSCs in timely preparation
of the required inventory to these programs.
3. Output
Marketing:
assists the producer, farmer, orchard owner, herder to find market for their
vegetables, fruits and livestock by teaching them good agriculture practices
and value
added activities.
4. Extension &
Training:
FSCAA staff, FSC
owners, extension staff and lead farmers provide technical assistance in all area of
business, including safe use and application of pesticides, usage of spraying machines and new
technology.
5. Credit Services:
FSCAA is extending
financial services to farming community, agro dealers, orchard owners, herders through collaboration with Banks and other
financial supporting agencies.
