The total population of India is more than 1 Billion. Out of this, 74% (740 Million) people are living in rural areas where per capita income is less than INR 1000 (US$ 20) per month.  More than 55 Million people live in the rural areas of Andhra Pradesh, one of the southern states of India. Khamman District of Andhra Pradesh is inhabited by more than  3 Million people whose monthly income in less than  US$ 6.

ACTIVE (Action for Collect
ive Tribal Improvement & Vocational Education), a not for profit development organization, started by a group of social workers in 1987 with livelihood interventions in the remote, interior and poorly endowed tribal hamlets in Khammam.

Our major achievement
s during the last seventeen years are

-3000 families organized into Village Level Sanghams
-Introduced the concept
of saving in the poor families thereby reducing the dependence on the money lenders
-Enrolling of all the school going chi
ldren in the primary schools
-Woman empowerment in the villages
-Full immunization achieved which resulted in no matern
al deaths
-Provided irrigation facilities to more than 5500 acres through the construction of water conservation structures

-Horticulture gardens promoted in 800 acres.
-Plantations raised in 3500 acres of Waste/Idle lands
-Various health
camps has been organized in the target villages, thereby improving the health condition of the populace
