Nature of business


 


Bobst Manchester (formally General Vacuum Equipment) is a premier supplier of vacuum web coating and metallizing equipment.  Founded in 1986 in Manchester, England, it now has a product range unrivalled in the metallizing industry.  Since 2004, it has been part of the highly regarded Bobst Group (www.bobst.com).


 


The BOBST General K4000 and K5000 metallizers coat plastic webs with aluminium to achieve high barrier and decorative effects.  These machines vary from 1250mm web width to 4500mm web width.  The BOBST General K3000 metallizer is the latest addition to the K model range, allowing entry level and cost effective metallizing of metallic yarn for saris or jaris on PET film.  Additionally, the K3000 can metallize PET for the sequins market.


 


The OptiCoat and OptiLab machines are vacuum coaters that can be used for the production of solar cells and other photo voltaic applications.  Clear barrier coatings of Silicon Oxide (SiOx) can be produced on BOBST’s PECVD machine.  Additionally aluminium oxide (AlOx), another clear barrier coating, can be produced on the K4000 and K5000 metallizers.  Clear barrier coatings allow packaged food to be kept fresh whilst still allowing the consumer to view the product.  BOBST General Registron Hawkeye, a recent development to the product line is a monitoring system that at full metallizer speed, detects, counts and categorises pinholes and other defects from 0.1mm upwards.
