Company Description

Montrol Savings and
Loans(MSL) was licensed by the Bank of Ghana on 11th
January 1998 under the Non-Bank Financial Institutions Law (PNDCL 328)
as a Non-Bank Financial Institution (NBFI). Consequently, the company
has the legal and regulatory mandate to receive deposits and as well
offer loan products.

In November 1997, we started the first
branch in Adum. At that time, the company commenced operations with
its target market focused largely on the micro finance industry
especially on market women and mining Companies. Initially, we offered “susu” type services.
In March 2000, the company opened its second branch at Suame, opposite
the Ali Baba steel House.

In July 2008, MSL decided to refresh and grow
its business through branch expansion, as well as the introduction of
new products to deepen its target market and reposition itself as one of
the leading savings and loans companies in Ghana.

Consequently, Montrol decided to change its strategy by moving out of the “susu”
type service where customers had to save and borrow against their
savings into a system where the credit worthiness of a client is
assessed before lending. To effectively achieve this, the company
decided to expand its target market to include small and medium business
enterprises, while at the same time, improving its services to the
microenterprise sector.

In addition, we ensure that our
deposit products meet the needs and preferences of our clientele. We
offer flexibility, attractive returns, quality services, security,
transparency, and quick access.

Today, Montrol has 3
branches and one agency which service both deposit and loan clients.
These customers are largely individuals, micro and small enterprises who
operate businesses within catchment areas of our branches. Montrol
reaches out to its clientele through its customer relationship officers
and credit officers assigned to specific territories targeted by the
branches. Our dedication can largely be seen in the variety of products
and services that we offer.

With the aim of growing to scale, Montrol developed the medium term strategic plan with the following objectives:

Strategic Objectives for FY 2000-2005

  1. To grow Montrol to scale and become the leading microfinance service provider in Kumasi, and subsequently in Ghana
  2. To achieve financial and operational sustainability, and thereby maximise shareholder returns
  3. To attain recognition in the global Microfinance industry as a stable and strong financial intermediary

With
a strong and focused Board of Directors, committed members of Senior
Management, and hardworking staff, the client is assured of high
quality, world-class service.
